Boxers of the Sixties - Boxing BC

My Sixties Boxing:  By Brian Zelley

Looking back through the Sixties there is much to remember from the boxing clubs such as Nanaimo's Newcastle Boxing Club to the Vancouver Firefighters Boxng Club.
Looking back through the windows to the past, I remember the coaches Georg Nepper, Harry Pollitt, Skimp williams, Gerry Sorenson, Bert Lowes and Pat West or my visit a a guest trainee at the Hastings Community Centre boxing club and sparring with Orland Ralph and Kalnan Santosi.
And who could forget the Astoria boxing club with the Boyce family members
Walter, Tommy, wayne and Gerald Boyce and many others that were
part of the club such as Rick Fleck, Glenn McGee, Clint Page and many more

Looking back towards the bright lights shining down onto the ring, I remember some of the opponents such as Don White, Roger Nepper, Robert  Kacer , Ken Stant, Wayne boyce, Jimmy McMillan, Del Deugau, Bill Gariepy,  Ray Lampkin Frank Scott, Neil Knight, Clark MacLellan and many more.

From Nanaimo to Vancouver, I remember the club mates and sparring partners Bob Lewis, Mike Lazare Gilles Nepper, Murray Glover, Frank Scott, Freddy Fuller, Dave Wylie, John Gamble,  Nick McDonald,
Jake Wiebe, Gordie Lawson and Tony James,

From the tournaments in 1964 to 1968, I remember the boxers such as Tommy Black, Howie Rabey, Wayne Powell, Donato Paduano, Ron Wilson, Ed Williams, Chester Douglas, Ken Alexander, Les Vegas, Hugh Lindsay, Fred Desrosiers, Wes Craven, Jack Meda,  Billy Taylor, Jake Wiebe
and many others.
